Roberts Birds of Southern Africa 7th Edition

Roberts – Birds of Southern Africa has been continuously in print for some 65 years and is the most popular African natural history book of all time. Two key factors have prompted a dramatic change in the format of this new edition of Roberts, which to date has been a combination of field guide and handbook that, notwithstanding text revisions and new plates, has changed relatively little since inception. Firstly, the old format was simply inadequate to accommodate the wealth of information that is now available and, secondly, southern Africa has in the interim become well served by excellent field guides. And so the decision was taken by the trustees of the John Voelcker Bird Book Fund, which is the custodian of Roberts, to change completely the format, scope and intent of the work. The scope and depth of biological information included in the new Roberts far exceeds that of any previous edition. The book has been totally rewritten, an undertaking that took more than four years.
